Chocolate Crinkle Cookies
Tweet
The holidays are over and you’re probably wondering why I wrote this baking post about a holiday cookie. Here’s the deal: I don’t like that some desserts fall in the “make-only-during-the-holiday-season” category and I think chocolate crinkle cookies fall under that.
I mean, why? I guess it kind of looks like the cookie is covered in snow or something. I have a hunch that the cookies are very American in origin, perhaps around the early 20th century during the rise of processed foods, food marketing and red-suited commercialized santas. Plus, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Betty Crocker had something to do with it.
I understand why some desserts are considered seasonal or appropriate for the holidays: Christmas pudding, bûche de noël, fruit cake (because it’s a good gift to give to people you don’t really like)…but why are these cookies even “seasonal”? It’s not like it’s made out of a fruit or vegetable. I mean, it’s made out of cocoa powder which is available all year round.
Call me an anti-traditionalist or whatever, but I’ll make these cookies in January, July, September…
Wow, these look absolutely delicious. I want to start making cookies along with our cupcakes, I think this post makes me want to start wayyyy sooner… like now maybe?
